We always discount off the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Pricing (MSRP). Our pricing includes a free design and product consultation, custom measuring, discounted product, shipping, installation and tax. We offer military and senior discounts. We can uninstall existing products and brackets for a nominal fee. The scope of our work includes a detailed consultation to help narrow your options, explain the attributes of each option and educate you so you make an informed purchase. We custom measure each of your window openings in 12 places to ensure a perfect fit. Who performs the measurements and what guarantees are provided if measurements are incorrect?

We perform the measuring using a precise laser tool. We measure in 12 places on the window opening to ensure the perfect fit. We are responsible for the measurements. In the rare instance that the treatment doesn't fit, we replace it at our cost.

What types of blinds, shades and shutters do you recommend for my specific windows and why?

There are a multitude of factors that go into a window treatment style recommendation. What elements are truly custom versus standard sizing or configurations?

Everything we do is customized for your home. We use a precise laser tool to custom measure each of your window openings in 12 places to ensure a perfect fit. Each shade, blind or shutter will be built to fit the exact measurements we take and provide to the manufacturer. For example, with blinds, the ladders that hold the slats will be spaced accurately for the openings and there will be no extra slats on the blind. For shutters, the panels will be built to fit the openings; the top and bottom portion of the panels are custom sized to the height of the openings. For shades, they are built to fit the opening exactly with the manufacturer given deductions so they operate properly. Lift system controls are customized to height. Motorization controls can be handheld remote or wall mounted wireless. Hardware colors can be customized at no additional charge.

What materials are used and how do they impact durability, appearance and longevity?

All of our products have a limited lifetime warranty from manufacturer defects for the original purchaser. Materials are specific to each product. Some of our materials are GREENGUARD Certified and have Microban protection. Alta's Safe Use designation provides assurance that certain fabrics are among the most stringent standards for chemical content in the world, including RoHS, REACH, and US Consumer Product Safety Commission Section 101 for lead content.

What should I expect during installation and what preparation is needed?

Our installers are experienced, licensed and insured and will treat your home or office space like it's their own. Prior to installation, please make sure each window is accessible, which may mean moving items such as furniture or boxes away from the window openings. When large objects can't be moved ahead of time, we will do our best to work around them. For a nominal fee, we also can uninstall and haul away your existing window treatments.

How do your products compare to Big Box store window treatments?

Accepted Answer

When comparing our products to the Big Box stores, there simply is no comparison. Our warranties are longer, our components are constructed better and our cords are made with more pieces of string so they'll last longer. Our products are custom built to fit each window opening. Big Box stores' products are not custom and have extra slats, extra fabric and extra ladders that are unnecessary and can look sloppy.

What options do you offer for controlling light and privacy?

We have options with tracks available to completely block light from the window openings. Our sheer products allow you to see through the treatment while still getting some UV protection. We offer varying degrees of light-filtering fabrics to control light and privacy in a completely custom way. We have a variety of slat sizes (1, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 and 4 inch) to angle and control light, some with motorized capabilities.

Which window treatments are the most energy efficient?

Accepted Answer

Honeycomb shades are the most insulating window treatments on the market. They help keep the heat out in the summer and insulate against cold in the winter, resulting in lower year-round utility bills. Due to their energy efficiency, Norman shutters qualify for a tax rebate. Hunter Douglas Architella honeycomb shades are 50% more insulating than any other shade on the market.

How do I clean and maintain my window treatments?

Each product has an online maintenance guide should something splatter or spill on your window treatment. While some shades can be submerged and cleaned, others may require hyposonic cleaning. We recommend consulting the manufacturer's website for specific care and cleaning information.

What child- and pet-safe lift options are available?

Accepted Answer

For child and pet safety, standard cords as a lift system were discontinued in the Summer 2025. Cordless lift shades and motorized shades are the safest. Other cordless options include continuous cord loop with tensioner, Ultraglide retractable wands and power wands.

What motorization options do you offer?

Accepted Answer

We offer hard-wired, low-volt wired, battery-operated, rechargeable battery-operated and solar panel options. Remotes come in 1, 5 or 15 channel remote controls. Multiple shades can operate on one channel. With blinds and shades, motors are inside the headrail. With shades, batteries can be inside or outside the headrail per your choice. Apps are available to control shades from your phone or tablet and set up scenes or timers. Voice control is available for those with an Amazon or Google smart speaker.

How quiet and reliable is motorized operation?

We offer four types of motorizations with differing levels of sound decibels. All of our products operate smoothly and consistently. Should a product problem occur, we will work directly with the manufacturer for a repair or replacement.

How long does it take to receive custom blinds, shades, and shutters?

Accepted Answer

Lead times vary from manufacturer and product line. The average time to receive your custom-built blinds or shades is three weeks. Standard shutter lead times vary from three to six weeks. Specialty shutters typically are built and shipped in eight weeks.

How are damaged or defective products repaired or remade?

Accepted Answer

Norman and Alta offer remake warranties; Hunter Douglas has a repair warranty. Blind remakes move to the front of the production line and are typically manufactured in a week; shades and shutters typically take two weeks. Hunter Douglas repairs are made by the local repair center and typically take an average of two to five business days.

How much UV protection do your products provide?

Accepted Answer

UV protection depends on the product. For screen shades (1%, 3%, 5% screen fabric), subtract the percentage opacity from 100 to get the product's UV protection. Example: a 1% screen shade blocks 99% UV whereas a 5% screen shade only blocks 95% of the UV.

How well do the products hold up aesthetically over time?

Aesthetic longevity depends on the product. Faux wood should not warp or discolor; if it does, the product is covered under warranty. Honeycomb shades have a white backing that reflects the sun and does not discolor the front-facing interior fabric. Woven wood shades and wood blinds are natural products which likely will fade over time.
